Meeting Notes — March 2, 2011

  1. Recap of Valentine’s Dance – Great turn out this year.  Raffle raised enough money to pay for DJ next year; and a roller skating family party for the whole school.  Looking to schedule the skate party during TV Turn Off week or before the end of school.
  2. TV Turn Off Week – Would like schedule to coincide with Bullying Presentation on March 24th at the Little Compton Community Center. TV Turn Off week will run from Monday March 21st through Friday March 25th.  Parents are also encouraged to continue through the weekend.  Discussed events for after school activities during this week. Possibly a basketball game for the older grades, maybe a dodge ball game for middle school students, possible staging of the TV game show “Minute to Win It” with prizes for grades 5-8; and checking availability for roller skating party. Also checking on a magician or storytelling day for younger students.
  3. Spring Book Fair – Scheduled for April 1st-5th. Will send out more information and request volunteers as we move closer to the event.
  4. Staff Appreciation Week – Scheduled for the first week of May. This year we will be doing an Italian theme for the lunch on May 6th. The bus driver appreciation breakfast will also be held this week.
  5. Field Day T-shirt Contest – This year a design will be picked from student submissions to be placed on the Field Day shirt. More details to follow about the upcoming contest.
  6. New Wilbur McMahon Clothing offer – Carrie-Ann Blythe is checking on the cost of ordering T-shirts, sweatshirts, and shorts with a Wilbur McMahon emblem on them. Items will be offered for purchase by the end of the school year
  7. New Business – Mr. Tomasso requested money to buy “Animal Farm” books by George Orwell for his 8th grade Literature class. Request approved by PST.

Meeting Notes — January 11, 2011

  1. Special Someone/Daughter Dance – Scheduled for Friday February 11th. Will be sending a flyer home soon with all the info. India Kenyon and Eva Curtin are organizing the event again this year. It will be handled in a pot-luck fashion, with requests to bring an item.
  2. Babysitting Course – Kristin Silveira is organizing a course through the Red Cross on babysitting. More info coming soon.
  3. Kids and the Dark Side of Technology – Rebecca Elwell wanted to remind everyone Tiverton Coalition is sponsoring this meeting coming up January 20th. Topics discussed include internet safety, cyber bullying, and cell phone issues.
  4. Little Compton Coalition – Rebecca Elwell said they are looking to sponsor a dinner focused on bullying issues for parents and kids. It will be geared toward 5th and 6th grade students, and is tentatively scheduled for March 24th. More information will be forthcoming.
  5. Yankee Candle fundraiser – Raised approximately $4000 for the school. Need to refund one customer who never received her order. Will get a check from Ruth Maiato.
  6. Meeting with Superintendent – Margaret Manning suggested inviting Superintendent Crowley for a meeting to share items she’s been working on such as additional programs, middle school curriculum changes, upcoming high school contract, etc. and to take questions from parents. Would like to combine it with next PST meeting for convenience; will work around the Superintendent’s schedule. Will wait to set a date for next meeting until after speaking with the Superintendent.

Meeting Notes — October 20, 2010

  1. Book Fair Recap – The total sold this fall was $4,200.  Thanks for a great turn out yet again. Approximately $2,100 of the total goes to PST/school. The breakdown is as follows $700 in cash will be deposited into the PST account; $700 worth was used to purchase books for the school; and another $700 will be held in scholastic funds to be used for future purchases.
  2. School Directory – Last call for the return of school directory information is this Friday October 22, 2010. Would like to start processing next week.
  3. Yankee Candle – Packets and money collected are due this Friday, October 22nd.
  4. Fall Fair - We are looking for volunteers to help set up or break down on the day of the fair. Anyone interested- please contact India Kenyon. Kristin Silveira will be handling coat donations again this year. Considering doing a raffle based on 50% of donations collected the day of the fair, as opposed to charging an entrance fee; that way families can donate as much or as little as they wish.
  5. Navy Band – Is set to perform on December 7th at 9:30am at the school.
  6. Santa’s Workshop – Will take place the beginning of December during school hours, dates not set yet. Sherri Cory is looking for volunteers to help during the sale days, please contact her at 635-8016.

Meeting Notes — September 22, 2010

  1. Bookfair – Will begin Monday Sept. 27th with teacher preview day. The fair will run through Friday Oct. 1st; with the last day, Friday, as a make-up day for students unable to visit on their regular class day. Anyone wishing to help please contact Carrie Ann Blythe.
  2. School Directory – Kerry McKinnon is in charge of assembling this year’s directory. Changes may be made to the form parents submit to make it easier to get through all the paperwork. Kerry was not present for more information but the finished booklet should be available in a month.
  3. Fundraising – This year we will try out Yankee Candle gifts for fundraising. Booklets are expected late October, with delivery possible by parent/teacher conference night November 17th.
  4. Halloween – Talked about a pumpkin carving display to coincide with the possible Haunted House at the Community Center. Still need to firm up ideas for next meeting.

Next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 20th at 9:15am.
